"It is insane that two men, sitting on opposite sides of the world, should be able to decide to bring an end to civilization(John F. Kennedy).” Nikita Khrushchev, a politician that led the Soviet Union during part of the cold war, Fidel Castro, almost started a nuclear war but luckily John F. Kennedy had a quick response to the problem. During the event it was the peak of the Cold War. It was the fifteenth year of the war. The Cold War was a struggle between the United States and NATO allies and the Eastern Bloc. This historical event of 1962 caused the U.S. the Soviets and Cuba to come closer to each other. A historical event which ended peacefully, the Cuban Missile Crisis helped bring US closer with Cuba, and helped pave the way for other peaceful decisions. …show more content…

Cuba and the Soviet Union were locked in a standoff with the U.S. at the height of the Cold War(CBC.com). Growing out of the Cold War rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union resulted in mutual suspicions, heightened pressure and a series of international disputes that brought the world’s superpowers at the time (U.S and The Soviet Union) to the brink of a holocaust. The international dispute over capitalism or communism was about to bring the world to an end. The Cold War began in Europe with the soviets controlling the East side which included half of Germany.
