Growing up in Miami, one of the most diverse cities in the world, has taught me a few things about diversity. Even in Miami, I have always been the only Persian in my diverse group of friends which includes a Mexican, two Indian twins, two Egyptian twins, and a Jew. Our Saturday night conversations consisted of comparing our cultures, founding out the similarities and differences between our languages and cuisines, and learning about each other 's customs. A typical sleepover included gorging down my mother 's Ghormeh Sabzi, a specialty Persian stew, while watching a Bollywood film.
