Who to blame for World War One Jade Overtoom B3e It is known that Germany was responsible for the outbreak of World War One in 1914. It took quite some years before the war started, as many events, spread over the years, provoked the war. One of the causes was the unification of Germany, the result of France declaring war on Prussia. Many events that almost certainly caused the First World War began as Germany and its allies started to create tensions between more and more countries, they became a threatening to the peace of Europe, eventually leading into the First World War. And even though we could not put all the blame on Germany, because didn’t provoke all the events that were responsible for the this was, Germany is still far the most responsible for the First World War. 1870 was the year of the Franco-Prussian war. This war led to the unification of a powerfull empire, Germany, a threatenening to many great other countries. France was defeated and humiliated in this war and Germany gained French territory of Alsace-Lorraine. This alone already created tensions between …show more content…

Also these events played a role in the war. All the events mentioned yet can be seen as the biggest parts of the cause of the First World War. It is often said that it started with the Franco-Prussian war, however it actually began with the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne on 28th of June 1914. Even though Franz Ferdinand was advised not to go on one of the trips he’d make, he ignored the advises. He was certain that there was nothing to worry about. The first attempt was made by a Serbian nationalist throwing a hand grenade towards the car, through the open roof, but the assassination failed.
