Curiosity is a common part of human nature. In the myth, "Pandora's Box" retold by Louis Untermeyer, Zeus sends Epithemus Pandora, a beautiful, smart, and curious woman, with a box. However, Empithmeus is wary of Zeus, so he warns Pandora never to open the box. Months go by before she is finally tempered with her curiosity to open the box. When she opens it just a crack, all the evils in the world were released. However, at the end of the story, Epithemus and Pandora realize that there is Hope at the bottom of the box. The second myth is titled "Coyote Steals the Sun and Moon," and it was retold by ___________. Coyote joins Eagle to seek out light in this myth. For example, since Pandora was given a dowry and was told not to open it, she resisted it. "One day, however, the curiosity, so long stifled, overmastered her"(Untermeyer 3). She opened the dowry and all the evils rushed out and corrupted the world. This shows the theme because she only opened the box because of her curiosity overpowered her. She knew that whatever was in the dowry was going to be bad. She knew this because Epimetheus told her not to open it, yet she still give in to opening the box. When Pandora opens the box, "They were noisome, abominably colored, and evil-looking, for they were the spirits of all that was evil, sad, and hurtful(Untermeyer 3). She knew that something really bad was going to be in there. She knew that it might be so dangerous that she tiptoes to the box and warily opens one hinge. Since she did this and let her curiosity take over, she released evils that will forever haunt the world. Additionally, this will kill thousands of people and make people suffer, all just because she could not control her
