It is surprising that The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is not more popular than it is, original and well thought out, Mark Haddon’s work is a great read. Not only does The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time keep you hanging on a cliff after every chapter, but it is complete, the lack of plot holes in this work of literature makes it enjoyable to read. Mark Haddon’s novel begins in 1998 where the 15 year old narrator Christopher Boone tells the story of his neighbor's poodle that was murdered. After an altercation with an officer, the police tell Boone to discontinue his investigation into the murder, he does not follow these directions. Despite his father’s warnings, Christopher goes on with his investigation of a nail biting adventure with numerous obstacles in his way. Without giving away the conclusion of the investigation, the story of Christopher Boone ends on a positive note, leaving the reader satisfied. …show more content…
Christopher has a disorder making it difficult for him to cope with new situations, meet new people, and make big decisions, “And when I was asleep I had one of my favorite dreams… And in the dream nearly everyone on the earth is dead”(121). Taking independence to the extreme, Christopher fantasizes about being the only human on earth. Boone’s plans consist of going to college, leaving home, and living alone.
