Cursive Writing Exercise Analysis

At an early age, my elementary school, St.Timothy, forced my classmates and me to do extensive exercises in cursive writing. The exercises in question came from a red book that read the title "Cursive Writing." It featured over sixty pages of exercises and each exercise involved writing the same alphabetical letter over three letter pages. There were even bonus exercises that involved using the learned cursive words in sentences or paragraphs, and these bonus exercises were given as extra credit to the kids with a sleight of hand. Usually, these exercises were completed after recess and given an hour to complete. As a child of eight years, I found these exercises pointless and tedious. I was finally having fun in my cursive writing sessions. The tedious, long, and boring days of writing out alphabetical letters in cursive were over, and the days of creative drawings are here. That is what I thought, until the teacher exclaimed during class that the final cursive writing book was due in the next two days. She further explained that students that have completed all the exercises will receive a 100 as a test grade and students who did the all the exercises and the bonus will receive a 110. I panicked at the thought that I might get a big fat F on a test grade for something so easy to do. I quickly thought about how fast I could complete a couple of exercises before my homework. I quickly grabbed the cursive writing book and began writing down the letter E in cursive. Before I knew it, I had finished with exercise F and even did the bonus exercises. I closed my cursive-writing book down and glanced at my clock. It was already 5:00 p.m.! My mom was strict about my curfew, which was 9:00 p.m., and I had to eat dinner and do the rest of my homework. I quickly scribbled down answer on my math worksheet and then my science. I did not care if got them right or wrong, I just wanted them to be done. I had to stop mid way on my science to eat dinner and returned at 7:30 p.m. I finished my science paper at 8:00 p.m. and began jotting letters in the cursive writing handbook. I repeated the same process the next day and was able to finish the cursive writing exercises as a sloppy, messy, unreadable block of text. The letters were all slanted and some were just scribbled. Most of the letters I wrote seemed nothing closed to the examples given in the book, and I did not even dare finish the rest of bonus exercises. It was the best I could have done within two
