Imagine going to a school where the arts, such as drama, music, and painting, are not available to take. In the world today, many public education systems are cutting art classes because of decreasing budgets and the belief that the arts are not as essential as the core subjects. While subjects like reading, math, and science are extremely important, the arts provide many benefits to all students and should not be cut.

Without the arts in schools, children are losing their creativity and inventiveness, skills which are cherished in the modern day workforce. Ken Robinson, the former professor of arts education at the University of Warwick, said in an interview with The Guardian; London UK,

However, the arts are known to improve students academic performance. Studies show that “involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork” (Smith). In other words, the arts are excelling students growth in the main subjects and giving them traits that are highly valued in the world today. Dosomething.org featured a statistic from a study by the OECD called, "Lessons from PISA for the United States, Strong Performers and Successful Reformers in Education", which shows that countries like Japan, Hungary, and the Netherlands, who continuously rank extremely high in math and science test scores, have obligatory arts programs ("11 Facts About Arts in Education"). It is no coincidence that these countries, which ensure their students have arts in their education, are ranked high in the core academic subjects.
