Bullying in Cyberspace Bullying behavior has been around for a long time. In the past, a student could switch schools, or towns to get away from the bullying. In today’s world with the internet if a person is being cyberbullied they cannot escape it by moving. The internet has worldwide distribution, so there is no way to escape. What would happen if a student from LTSCG in Casa Grande, Arizona reported to school officials that she was being bullied on a classmate’s facebook page? This paper is going to consider LTSCG and Arizona state policies on cyberbullying, the arguments that the student being charged with cyberbullying can claim regarding the First Amendment, and Legacy Traditional School-Casa Grande’s First Amendment response.

According to the 2016-2017 Parent/Student handbook (2016) LTSCG teaches “The Four Pillars of Patriotism” which are loyalty, responsibility, service and citizenship as well as utilizing positive discipline to help prevent any type of bullying behavior. They also believe that there are three types of bullying emotional, social and physical. LTSCG follows the Arizona Department of Education’s definition of bullying which is a student is threatened, intimidated, or harassed by one or more students in a manner that causes the student to be harassed, annoyed, or alarmed. Blue Mountain Sch. Dist., (3d Cir. 2011) two junior high girls created a myspace page using their Principal’s picture. The page contained many vulgar, indecent and character attacking comments. The school suspended the girls for ten days, the girls appealed the suspension through the court systems. The court determined that the girls have a right to free speech, the website was created off campus, and nobody was threatened and overturned the suspension.
