Many people do not want to believe it, but cyber bullying is on the rise. It is especially on the rise for young children and students. According to Google, cyberbullying can be defined as the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature. The impact of cyberbullying is beginning to be greater than what some people, including the victims and the parents of the victims, can handle. No matter which way somebody chooses to look at it, cyber bullying is a problem that needs to be solved now. Most people, mainly students, now have access to multiple forms of social media including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook being the most common (Pappas, 2015). The Urban Institute did a study on bullying and the study showed that about 17% of students reported being victims of cyberbullying (Pappas, 2015). There have been many studies done over the years on how cyberbullying links to depression in children/students. One of those studies found that around 32% of victims of cyberbullying experienced at least one symptom of stress and around 38% reported that he or she was emotionally destressed, or extremely upset (Nixon, 2014). Some of the most common feelings reported by victims are frustration, anger, and sadness. Some reasons that people may bully others is because they want to fit in, copy their friends, or maybe even because they think they are better than the kid they are bullying. If the bully is not stopped, then later in life, he or she could possibly begin using drugs, engage in more fights, and even drop out of school.
