The Dalai Lama The current Dalai Lama has a very complex reputation. He means a lot to people. The Dalai Lama described himself as a simple monk, but other people see that he is more than a monk. For Tibetan people, he is a spiritual leader and a living Buddha. The western and Chinese people also have a very different viewpoints about the Dalai Lama. Unlike China, the Dalai Lama is described in a positive way in the west, so why this man gains t different reputations. The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhists. He was born on 6 July 1935 to a farmer family of Taktser , Amdo, north eastern Tibet. He tries to teach the Tibetans the good human values such as compassion, forgiveness and tolerance. He makes dialogues with heads of different religions to get religious harmony and understand other religions' traditions. He made impact on Tibetans and on the people around the world. On the west, the Dalai Lama is a living Ghandhi. The Dalai Lama chooses a peaceful way to have a more independent country and this had been supported by the Western. This supporting had increased dramatically after he had been awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize. He had been awarded with numerous honorary degrees from western universities. He had travelled around the world and had met with many leaders. Also, the Dalai Lama speaks English, so this in somehow helps him to enter the western world. He wrote many books which are available in English and other European languages. Moreover, the Dalai Lama’s religious beliefs help him to gain his reputation in the West. It is thought that because of his Buddhism beliefs he becomes more wise and more peaceful. In addition, he has a reputation as a charismatic figure. He is kind, humble and has a sense of humour.
