He had everything going for him. Eli Tatum, a junior at a well-respected private high school in Reno, Nevada, was the epitome of a hard-working and high achieving student. Not only did Eli maintain superior grades in the most challenging of classes, he was also a spectacular athlete, musician and person. In today’s schools we have at least 5 hours of academics, but in Bradbury’s world, the students get a shorter time to learn unimportant material. “‘An hour of TV class, an hour of basketball or baseball or running, another hour of transcription history or painting pictures, and more sports, but do you know, we never ask questions... they just run the answers at you’” (Bradbury 27). Instead of being taught mathematics, English, science or social sciences, they learn about technology and sports, which won’t help them succeed in the future.
While the teacher was walking around the room to check for completion of the homework, Eve started scribbling words across her paper. According to her paper, the cause of the Civil War was a single displacement reaction. Eve did not care that her answer was completely incorrect because the teacher gave her full credit for having any answer on the page. Numerous students like Eve are in the school system.
Madison Brosky, Class Green Make it Stick: Book Analysis For the book analysis project, I chose to read the book ‘Make it Stick’: The Science of Successful Learning’ written by Peter C. Brown, Henry L. Roediger III, and Mark A. McDaniel. The book begins by explaining that most people choose to learn the hard way by putting tons of time and effort into something that is later a complete waste. The point isn’t that we are taught poorly, but that we are taught in the wrong way because each individual learns differently.

During this observation, students were working on a math test or working on assignment. The teacher was reading the math test to a student. Hayden finished his test, and he was drawing dinosaurs. Hayden appeared to be easily distracted. For example, Hayden stopped what he was doing to look around the room when another student tap his pencil and looked around the room when students walked by his desk.
The Magic of Skipping a Grade (and why it isn’t as bad as it seems) Many an overachiever has experienced the dreaded first day of their new grade, with mind racing, heart pounding. Everybody’s heads turn as a grade of people the same age is now accompanied by someone one, two, in some cases three years younger than them. The kid who just skipped a grade sticks out like a mouse at an elephant convention. However much their older, wiser, bigger classmates might make fun of them, nobody can get around the fact that those people weren’t the ones who were intelligent enough to jump a whole grade like it was nothing. Granting a student the proper amount of time to write an essay could create an enormous difference in one’s score. With proper time, students would not feel rushed. They would have adequate time to read over and revise their work. In addition, we must consider the factor that some people test better than others. While someone could be a great student in the classroom, they could just test poorly.
Why Is Schoolwork Homework? An elementary student trudges home from school with a heavy bag and a heavy heart. He does not understand how to do his homework and his parents work late. His grandmother has no experience with new educational methods.
Some of the students cheated on vocabulary quizzes by hiding the vocabulary list near them where they could still see it, and since it was a short (2-3 minutes) quiz the teacher wouldn’t make people put binders fully away. In one instance a student had a vocabulary list next to his desk, I was temped to look at it because I had blanked on the answers but then thought otherwise. I thought about the statement that “character is acting well when no one is watching”. I thought that it would not be worth it to cheat on anything, even not directly not because of getting caught (I wouldn’t have since it wasn’t my paper) but because I need to think about what kind of person that would make me, if I did and continued down a wrong path.
The minute hand on the clock ticked by slowly. Just half a minute more before the harmonious scream of the students would fill up the exam hall. Just a month ago, cramming my head with notes and formula seemed like an impossible feat. However, there I was, sitting beside the grand entrance, subconsciously counting the days that await me during the school break. As the final second struck 12, everyone handed in their final paper.
