Danielle Van Dam was taken from her home by the family’s neighbor Westerfield. Danielle’s father was home with her, along with a few siblings as well. During that time, Danielle’s mother was out with friends and then returned in the middle of the night with friends, still neither of the parents checking on the children because they assumed that the kids were okay. Unfortunately, during sometime in that night, Westerfield entered the home, kidnapped Danielle Van Dam, and killed her, leaving her body in an area marked with trees and a very busy road in San Diego.

In the Van Dam’s home, Danielle’s room is of utter importance because there may be evidence that could lead to her killer, or perhaps she knows the killer personally. If there was any forced entry in the downstairs of the home, the wife and her friends would have picked up on the damage. That leads me to believe that the assailant entered Danielle’s room through a window in her room. The window would have to be processed by looking for any fingerprints that could be present or any other DNA evidence that the assailant could have left on the window. Danielle’s bed should be checked for DNA or other type of clue that could lead to the killer. Doors and door knobs also should be fingerprinted just in case the killer touched anything else. The floor may be a good place to find footprints or remnants of soil or dirt that could have possibly been attached to the killers’ shoes. Sometimes using soil and/or dirt and analyzing it may lead the investigators to a certain
