For my final project, I am choosing to create a Data Assessment Plan on Mary. I decided to choose Mary as my client because at my current job I work with a few clients who have a similar background and I feel as if I have more experience in this type of scenario. In this data journal, I will be establishing context for my case note by discussing the client’s background, describing the basic elements of the theory I plan to apply to the client’s case, explain foundational information about the theory I choose, explain why the theory is applicable to the client, use the developmental theory to explain the client’s case, and explain what needs to be addresses to get the client back to a state of mental wellness. Erik Erickson presented a model emphasizing the challenges and tasks presented across one’s lifespan as a key to understanding human development. Erickson’s theory is an epigenetic theory, which means it focuses on both the biological and genetic origins of behaviors. Erickson suggested that this biological unfolding in relation to our sociocultural settings is done in stages of psychosocial development, where progress through each stage is in part determined by our success, or lack of success, in all the previous stages. Erickson theorized that all humans pass through 8 stages of development. These 8 stages are: trust vs. mistrust (0-1 ½), autonomy vs. shame and doubt (1-3), initiative vs. guilt (4-6), industry vs. inferiority (7-12), identity vs. role confusion (12-18), intimacy vs. isolation (19-40), generativity vs. stagnation (41-65), and integrity vs. despair (65 +). These 8 stages of development go through one’s entire lifespan ranging from birth to mature adulthood.
