The stage is stage 4 which is Industry vs. Inferiority. This stage of psychosocial development is that children are learning skills, academic training, trying to do things on their own and try to display a behavior that is accepted in the eyes of society. Peer group also plays dominant role in the development to shape the child’s esteem. Rain Man is a brilliantly executed movie in the sense that the actor Dustin Hoffman managed to bring out the difficulties faced by persons suffering from Autism Spectrum. According to Psychology Today Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disorder that affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills. One of the symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder is impaired social interaction. This symptom can be observed from a scene with the first interaction that Raymond had with Charlie. Raymond appeared friendly and sociable, however, when Charlie tried to ask him personal questions he would answer while he walked away, as if he is easily distracted which comes off as being socially awkward. Another symptom that is displayed in the movie is the fact that Raymond showed signs of restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior. This can be observed from the scene where Charlie gave Raymond his new room that was neatly arranged for him. However, Raymond rearranged the room the way he is used to it back to when he was at the nursery home. He also stated “6:30 is dinner, it’s definately 6:30”, this statement indicates that he usually has dinner at 6:30 which is his everyday pattern.
