"On the day before Easter the mentally unstable mother of a five-year-old Bronx boy named Daytown Bennet tied him to a chair and beat him to death with a broomstick. Starving when he died- he weighed just 30 pounds" (Grapes 54). What Daytown Bennet experienced is one of many examples of child abuse. "Child abuse comes in many shapes and forms as it affects the lives of children every day all over the world." Children should not bare the pain from the individuals that brought them into this world. Child abuse cases such as neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse are happening at this moment all around the world.

"Physical abuse of a child is when a parent or caregiver causes any non-accidental physical injury to a child" (childhelp.org). Some of the reasons that a child may have an abusive parent includes the habits of alcohol abuse, smoking, or drugs just as most cases are caused by. Many parents take out their frustrations or anger on their innocent child. "28.3% of adults report being physically abused as a child" (Childhelp.org).They know that the child will not report them due to having the lack of gut it takes them into report it to their teacher or a friend they know and trust. They also know that their child fears if they tell an adult they could lose their parents, which causes their brain to think deeply and take the account that they are going to be left alone and never be taken care of again. Symptoms of physical abuse are more noticeable than sexual abuse. "Signs consist of bruising, fear of the actions of others close by, flinching, or unexplained or explanations that do not make sense" (childhelp.org). This is when a child is not being given the love and care that he or she needs to grow. "Child neglect is when a parent or caregiver does not give the care, supervision, affection and support needed for a child’s health, safety and well-being" (childhelp.org). Victims create a habit of stealing food from others, constantly asking for money, or your food. No one knows the true reason why children are being neglected or abused. "The man who loses his job or cannot support his family as he thinks he should feels that he has failed as a man and as a husband" (Cooney 54). When parents deal with tough financial situations, it can cause stress and anger within them. Some parents feel the need to take that stress and anger out on their children because they may feel their children are the reason they are in that financial situation, so the only way to get rid of that anger and frustration is to abuse that child. The effects of child neglect and abuse include: losing their parents, being moved into a foster care or a different facility, they may never feel the love of a parent, and many other effects come with neglecting and abusing a child.
