For decades, anthropogenic activities have been blamed for the deteriorating balance of nature. Humans have been the central target in the criticism due to their disruptive effect on the balance of nature. Historical accounts provide clues on the ancient presence and distribution of flora and fauna. This information reveals the natural balance between flora and fauna and a self-sustaining ecological system. Nonetheless, human interference has threatened the survival of some species. De-extinction serves a restorative role to the broken genetic lineage between the extinct species and the modern living systems. The study of genetics is essential in establishing the chronological evolution of species from their ancient forms into the contemporary conformations. Therefore, failing to resuscitate the early animal species renders genetic studies difficult. Biotechnology holds the future of the extinct species. Using the preserved DNA fragments, biotechnologists are able to reconstitute the original genes through cloning and surrogacy. In this regard, the role of de-extinction in genetics is two-fold. Firstly, resurrecting the extinct species is crucial in advancing the practicability of the technology. Secondly, ensuring the continuity of these species guarantees the future of genetic engineering. The science would prove its proficiency and importance by resurrecting the long-gone animal species. This merit occurs simultaneously with the need to create continuity of species on which the future genetic engineering will be founded.
