Dear Torrance School Board of Education, Why do students have homework? Learning is important, and helps expand people’s minds. But what is the reason for homework? Students, everyday go to school, and go into classes for hours, to learn. Homework is unnecessary because, when homework is assigned each and every day, it becomes extremely stressful for the students, because students might have to stay up late to finish their work. Some students with other activities such as clubs or even sports make completing homework a problem. Homework stops students from getting this amount of sleep especially when students have extracurricular activities such as clubs or sports. These activities can cause students to be occupied to times such as 5:00 or 6:00pm. And on top of that they will get about three and a half hours of homework each day. Though sometimes homework can be even longer than that, it could go on for hours, because of larger assignments. Think, the feeling of going into nice soft bed, and it being ripped from you when you remember that you have an assignment due the next day. Students come home and just to do their homework day after day. Students will stay in longer doing their work, and be outside less reducing their social lives; their interactions with other people. Students won’t be able to spend time with the people they care about, like their family and their friends. Does it feel good when you are able to spend time with your friends, your family after a long day of school? Yes, yes it does. Does God not want us to be happy and relaxed? No, God wants everyone to be able to love their lives, to spend time with the people they care about, and do the things they want to do. Yes, it is true that you can’t learn everything you need to in a day in class, but teachers should go at the pace at which the students are comfortable with, so that everyone has a chance to learn effectively. God behooves us to be able to take our time and enjoy our lives, not to be angry with all of the work that is needed to be done with homework. Homework is slave labor; we are forced every day to do it. And what if we if we don’t complete it? We will reap the consequences of not completing it, with F’s and low
