In Death’s Diary 1942, Death tells you all about himself. Death begins by telling you that he doesn’t have a scythe and doesn’t look like a skeleton. He also tells you that he doesn’t like how hard his job has become with Stalin and Hitler killing so many people. He then decides that he should tell you the rest of the story of the book thief. The chapter The Snowman begins with Liesel giving her weather report to Max that it is snowing outside and she decides to bring buckets of snow into the basement. Soon after the whole family has a fun snowball fight in the basement and they all decide to work together to build a snowman. In order to warn Hans and Rosa, Liesel bumps into another player giving herself a bruise so she can go home to warn them. Her plan works and she is allowed to go home but they are barely given any time before the Nazis arrive. The family is somehow able to hide Max under the stairs but after the whole ordeal Max feels sorry for putting the family in danger. The Schmunzeler takes place a couple of minutes after the Nazis come to visit the Hubermanns. The chapter begins with a second knock on the door and when he goes to answer it, he tells Liesel that her boyfriend has arrived. Soon after when Liesel goes to talk to Rudy he asks her how she is doing and he also asks her if she can steal some of Hans’s cigarettes which she outright refuses to do. After she refuses to steal a cigarette for him he asks how she is doing once again and when she tells him she was good, he left.
