In modern society, controversial topics flood the means for conversation as they are becoming more frequent in everyday life. Among all of them, however, the debate over gun control has been prevalent for so long as it is something many people can easily share a stance on. It is an issue everybody should have an opinion on, as it is vastly important, potentially threatening, and all too present in modern society. Recent events leading to the deaths of many American citizens are likely enough for people to strive for the addition of stricter gun control, although such action may really be meaningless and infringe upon the core rights established by the country’s founders themselves. American citizens are currently armed with privately-owned guns to protect their freedom. If used properly, private gun ownership is beneficial to those who want to feel safer personally owning firearms. This stance portrays the fact that some values of gun control may help such as more extensive background checks, but ultimately it is a futile attempt that will lead to a minimal affect on modern society. In theory, the abolishment of guns would not have an effect on the levels of gun-related violence as gun control laws do not deter crime; the improper use of guns and firearms falling into the hands of the mentally-ill and unstable deters crime. Gun control will infringe upon the right to self-defense and deny citizens a sense of safety, and lastly, criminals will find their own means to obtain weapons illegally regardless of what laws are set in
