Decision Making Journal Reflection The art of effective and efficient decision-making can be an intricate matter. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the extreme importance of rational decision-making and how decisions can either positively or negatively influence us and other individuals. Additionally, it is crucial for business organizations to make adequate decisions that benefit all parties associated with that organization to guarantee future success. In light of this, psychology experts consider implementing six steps in order to make rationally based decisions: defining the issue, identifying the criteria, weighing the criteria, generating alternatives, rating alternatives on each criterion, and computing the optimal decision, respectively, maximizes our ability to utilize good judgment and minimizes the chances of making poor decisions (Bazerman & Moore, 2013). This rational model of decision-making allows for us to critically analyze persistent issues that require appropriate solutions and is quite useful in tactful business negations, which requires patience and time. On a daily basis, we tend to think utilizing System 1, which is beneficial in many aspects, such as "interpreting verbal language or visual information" in instances where we are required to quickly respond (Bazerman & Moore, 2013, p. 3); in avoiding an oncoming vehicle, for example, it would be much better for us to quickly respond to the situation versus taking the time to process the situation; however, in instances where we are permitted to take our time in developing solutions, utilizing System 2 would be best. The fact that System 2 is explicit leaves less room for confusion or uncertainty and assures others that since one 's decision was carefully thought through with conscious effort, they can place better faith in the decision. It is also important to point out that since System 2 does not function off of personal emotions, which, depending on the individual, can often be irrational; it decreases the chances of a biased decision that may induce
