Assignment Two: Family

Through many decades the term family has been commonly recognized as a group of people related by blood. In the twenty first century the definition of family has become personalized to mean what you want. It no longer has the structured meaning that it was given by the dictionary. Its definition has changed just like so many other things in this decade.
Twenty years ago family was defined as a group of people who were related by blood consisting of two heterosexual parents and a child. It was uncommon for two people to be together if they were of different religions, nationalities, or the same gender. Now that time has brought us to the twenty first century the definition has taken a full one eighty from its structured meaning. Personally; I would define family as a group of people with a strong bond between them. A family could include friends, “blood” relatives, and animals. They may not be related to you but they do care about a common subject. Most people care about one subject so much that they create a family around that subject. If you were on a sports team when in post secondary you would be part of that teams family. With Thompson Rivers University every student athlete is part of the WolfPack; when something happens to one member of the team every other member takes notice and makes sure that they get the help needed to stay part of the WolfPack family. For example; if you were a former member of the WolfPack you could look back on the moments you had with your team and those moments would fall into the current definition of family.
