What is diversity? According to www.merriam-webster.com diversity “is the condition of having or being composed of differing elements”. Many people think of diversity as just having different types of races and cultures. While that is true, it’s so much more. I believe diversity is everything that makes up a person or group. Race, sexual-identity, socioeconomic backgrounds, ideas, education, and beliefs are some examples of what diversity is.
Unlike many students, I haven’t been publicly educated all my life. From my early education years up until the eighth grade I was home schooled. I learned to read and comprehend books far above my age level. I learned cursive and also got hands on with science through experiments. These are just some of the ways I could uniquely learn at my pace in a way I couldn’t have in public school. I started public school two weeks into my eight grade year. While it was quite a shock to my system at first, I adapted quickly and have learned the ins and outs of being a student in the public education system. Because of my varied education background, having been both home and public schooled, I have a broader range of experiences than your typical student.

I grew up just outside a very small town in Missouri. We had one and a half acres and a small house. Being in the countryside holds some of my fondest childhood memories.
