She stands there. She stares at the array of makeup before her. Which to choose, which to choose. Should she wear the pretty pink blush, or the dark blue eyeshadow? These days, it's all about the look, style, weight, anything you can think of to judge someone with. Girls go through a constant struggle to be what society calls "perfect". I'm sure every girl in this room can relate, right? The media constantly tells us to be ourselves, but how can we be ourselves when they also tell us to look like someone else? Recent studies have shown that teenage suicide rates have tripled over the last 10 years. A total of 478 people committed suicide in New Zealand in 2011, 369 were females and 109 of them were males. Yet so many people still wonder why, almost as if it isn't obvious enough? It's always the pressure to be perfect. Sometimes I wonder if I am the only one thinking exactly, what is perfect, what is beautiful and what is ugly? Well to answer the first question, perfect is never the same, perfect is in fact, the impossible. Perfect is different to everyone, meaning, no one or nothing can actually be perfect. I think true beauty comes from the inside. Your outside may not "fit in" to society's needs but if you have an amazing personality, a lot more people will find you attractive once they get to know you. Being a good person is what most people look for. You can have the most attractive outer but the ugliest inside. Which leads me to my next and last question, what is ugly? Well. To answer that, ugly isn't what you look like. I personally think that ugly is someone who is rude, non-accepting and negative towards anyone. A beautiful personality will get you further than a beautiful face. But does this affect our self-esteem? Yes, in more ways than one
