Definition Essay: What Defines A Hero

What defines a hero? Google says a person who is admired or idolized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble quality's. But do heroes have to be all that? Outstanding achievements? Noble quality's? Do they really have to be all that? Could they be a normal person, and have a normal life. They don't have to be, "superheroes." My definition for hero is someone who you respect, and can look up to. When you look up to somebody they don't have to be better than you, and you don't have to look up to them forever either.
A hero can be shy and reserved, or confident and open. They can be encouraging, they can be whatever they are as long as you call them your hero. The behavior of a hero doesn’t need to actually be heroic, they don’t usually do it on purpose. Sometimes it's their job, sometimes they're trying to be helpful.
When we say hero, what comes to mind? For me, it's usually the comic book or movie hero's. For me it's not easy to, "just pick." A hero. To be honest I don’t even know who my hero is, I really don't. To me a hero can be anyone from a important person in history, to your next door neighbor. Its whoever you look up to, and the can change often. It just depended on if you think they are or not. Say your dad helps you with your math homework, he can be your hero for the day. Or your having a bad day and your friend tells you a joke to cheer you up. I think people take the word hero to serious, and they don’t get what it might mean. For me hero meant someone who you wanted to be like, someone who you thought was better than you. I think because of movies, the term hero has been drastically changed. Hero doesn’t sound like something you can call your friend or most people. But to be honest, you can call them a hero. It's just a word, like how you call your mom,
