Being able to commit to something higher than ourselves is something that I, along with many others have a hard time grasping. Most of the time people need to be able to physically see or touch something to believe in it. Faith is the ability to believe in something when so many other things are telling us not to. I needed to be reminded of this often and I look forward to using the Christianity 9 to 5 Bible Study to do that for me. I also hope to gain a new/or better perspective on why having a job is important. Coach Wooden worked on coining his own, personal, definition of what success means and I have always used his definition in my way of defining the same word. Wooden wrote that “success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” (Wooden & Jamison, 2004). I can not think of a better way to achieve success then knowing that you did the best that you could. If people keep Him in mind at work, and they work hard and do the right thing, I believe that He considers them successful. God wants us to do our best and if we can do that and give all the glory to Him, we will gain the ultimate reward in the end.
Considering retirement is something that has never crossed my mind, let alone what will be said about me on that day. Considering how I work, I would hope that Jesus would much how humble I was as an employee. I hope that He can explain how I was always willing to do a job, no matter how tedious, to the best of my ability. I hope that He comments on my work ethic and I hope that it was up to his standards.
