Did you know that Cleopatra VII is not Egyptian? She is Greek. She was a relative of Alexander the Great and was known for being the last pharaoh of the Ptolemaic Dynasty. Cleopatra was witty and charming. She was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt. She was very kind and was an amazing leader. To Begin, the Ptolemaic Dynasty ruled for more than 300 years after they came from Greece and took over Egypt. Cleopatra had two sisters and two brothers. She knew many languages and was most likely the first pharaoh of the Ptolemaic Dynasty to learn the native language of Egypt. She was the child of Cleopatra V and Ptolemy XII Auletes. She found out that Julius Caesar was in Alexandria because he wanted help from the Egyptians to win the Civil war of the Romans, but so did Gnaeus Pompey. Ptolemy made a huge mistake that would cost him his life, he wanted help from Ceaser so he killed Pompey and gave his head to Caesar. Caesar was not pleased, he was angry, in his eyes, Pompey was still a Roman leader and that was a huge disrespect. Cleopatra knew that she could not make it to the palace without Ptolemy catching her. So she rolled herself in a carpet and got delivered to his room. He was charmed by her looks and decided to help her. Her relationship with Caesar solved most of Egypt's debts. She was able to win back to the throne and it was rumored that her brother drowned in the Nile River. Many people think that she had one of her spies murder her other brother. Nine months after meeting they had a son that she “Co ruled” with. Everything was going smoothly, and she expected their son to be the Heir of Caesar. Cleopatra wanted her son to be the heir and she thought that Mark Antony would help her achieve this, so she dressed up as the goddess Iris and came on a beautiful boat. He was charmed because he associated himself with Dionysus, a god. Eventually, they formed a military alliance against Octavian. Unluckily for Antony he fell in love with Cleopatra and divorced Octavia, Octavian's sister, not knowing the war he just started. Octavia was their form of agreement to co-rule. This started The Battle of Actium. Half of the Romans were fighting alongside Mark Antony and Cleopatra's army, but Octavian had a better army so in 30 BC, Antony and Cleopatra had to flee back to Egypt.
