Giver analysis The book the Giver and its poorly made movie adaptation could not be any different. Given that the movie was made basically 20 years later, it's almost like the producers never read the book. The characters have very different personalities and the relationships between them are developed very differently. The relationship between the Giver and Jonas is one thing that changes throughout the book and the movie. During the book the author spends time developing their relationship by spending time showing the different memories the Giver gives Jonas.
She gives of examples of hunger, starvation and even sunburn while in the book the only examples of painful memories such as war and many happier ones. I think the directors and scriptwriters made this change because the movie had moved along quicker and faster focusing on the relationship between Fiona & Jonas and others.

During the book Asher is described as a childish fun loving friend who always seem to break the rules and end up in trouble. He even ends being given the job of Recreation Director to be in control of the children. Instead in the movie once Asher is assigned the job of Drone pilot he turns into to a person always needing to follow the rules. This change was made because in the end if Asher would not have been able the drone pilot that left Jonas go all the other pilots would have made sure he didn’t make it out alive. His relationship with Jonas gets worse when Asher tries to stop Jonas from escaping in the movie but the ends up helping him while in the book he never seems to interfere with Jonas. In my opinion Asher’s personality was changed in the movie because given that the actors age was older then the book said were twelve it gives the sense that he is more matured. Another reason is probably because in the movie there was no one to portray as the
