Differential Association Theory Paper

Theories within criminology try to explain why and how crimes take place, This is done through examining various individuals and the facts that's related to that individual's criminal behaviour and the crime they commit or even why. There are a wide range of theories which can be used to explain the causes of crime and deviant behaviour from youths and even adults. Youth crime is a major issue in society today, however this this essay will discuss the differential association theory.

The differential association theory is one of the most valued theories within criminology. This theory was first discovered by Edwin Sutherland (1947), he developed the differential association theory in order to explain how youths engage in acts of criminal behaviour. This theory defines criminal behaviour as learnt behaviour which is acquired through social contact with other individuals. This theory explains how individuals learn how to engage in criminal behaviour through their attitudes, drive and motive behind the criminal act. However, views on differential association theory is different from any other because it cause so much issues and talks in society we have to remember that the differential association theory associate with the attitude and motives of criminal behavior and this means by people who are not criminals associate with criminals that makes them a criminal and that's what causing the issues in society.
