Overview of the Industry:
According to the Vault, “the advertising industry is a global, multibillion-dollar industry that serves as a conduit between manufacturers and customers.” Advertising can influence many consumers’ decisions, which is part of its importance. Advertising and Marketing companies connect and manage the connections between the company or manufacturers and the customers. The total advertising spending within the US increased about 4% over 2013 to approximately $171 billion. It is expected that digital ad spending will continue to rise, but video and mobile device use for advertising is going to increase rapidly. Employment of marketing and advertisement managers in this industry is supposed to increase by 7% through 2022.

The first is a Marketing Associate/Brand Assistant who is mostly in charge of research for your individual company. Another type of job is a Brand/Product Manager are in charge of a particular brand in a company’s brand portfolio and in charge of all aspects of that. Another type of job, one that interests me the most is a Creative Specialist, and they are in charge of the creative side of marketing with both creative and problem solving skills present. Another type of job is a Marketing/Fund Development Director who is in charge of marketing for a particular company or product and working with teams but also being a great manager for this type of position. The first is a balance of left and right brain thinking, using both analytical and creative parts of the mind to find a solution. Another is a strong curiosity about what makes people tick and drives them to make purchasing decisions. Along with these two traits, jobs and experience that match these traits. One who wants to work in marketing should have experience in business or economics classes, an MBA, or a bachelor’s degree in advertising, journalism or a science. Foreign language capabilities and living/working abroad is also an advantage because of the exposure to different types of people and different cultures. Management training opportunities should be taken because it helps differentiate and looks good on a resume.
