Finally, my third weakness under Transformational Leadership Theory is I lack expertise in Pearson’s products and procedures. As noted in the previous paragraph, one of the eight essential elements contributing to a strong transformational leader’s success is expertise (Rolfe, 2011). With my current, limited knowledge in Pearson products and services, I would be unable to establish credibility and authority as a leader if I were placed in a leadership position today. Workers want a leader that has the right answers and fully understands the products and services the team handles. To become a successful leader, I need to know how to motivate others. In the article titled “Transformational Leadership and Knowledge Sharing” (2016), the authors note that “…followers in the condition of transformational leadership are able to maximize their subordinate's performance and increase the degree of their feelings of motivation, organizational commitment, satisfaction, trust and work engagement” (Bono and Judge, 2003; Podsakoff et al., 1996 as cited in Han, Seo, Yoon, & Yoon, p. 132). Motivating others is such a huge part of being a strong manager, so by obtaining motivational skills, I will have the ability to create a fun and conducive working environment. For instance, I might use the skills I obtain to encourage my followers to take part in continuing education opportunities, which will help them become more effective in their current positions as well as allow them to think about where they see themselves in the future. It does not matter where I am working, having a firm understanding of the company, its polices, and its products is key to moving into a management position. At Pearson, there are numerous products and procedures to learn about, and it seems a little daunting for someone like myself who is considering working toward a management position within the organization. However, by establishing manageable and short-term goals around enhancing my expertise, I will be able to obtain the knowledge I am seeking in no time. For instance, my current manager has offered to allow me to work with mentors within the company so I can learn more about the products I am interested in. Taking a step like this would allow me to focus on a specific product and ultimately work to obtain a management position in that area. By taking the initiative to gain additional knowledge on one or more specific products, I can be sure that I am prepared to lead a team, and this will ultimately leave Pearson with a strong leader in the long
