From my observation, the interview with Ms. Wesson and from speaking with staff, Ms. Wesson transforms the staff daily by role modeling, promoting employee development, providing a stimulating, safe and productive work environment, while inspiring them to deliver quality patient care. All of the staff members are spoke with expressed satisfaction with Ms. Wesson’s leadership and were inspired by the way she motivates and gives credit to the staff. I believe Ms. Wesson has a transformational leadership style. Transformational leader emphasizes the importance of interpersonal relationships (Textbook p.43). Instead of blaming and being upset about it, she starting asking questions to identify the risks for falls. Once some risks had been identified, she proceeded to re-educate staff on fall prevention strategies. There was another incident in the meeting when the MDS coordinator started to complain about the unit coordinators not completing the electronic care plan to meet the reimbursement standards. She asked the MDS coordinator if she made the necessary corrections to the care plan and if she had brought it to unit coordinators’ attention. The MDS coordinator said she did not make the correction because it was not her responsibility. Ms. Wesson made it very clear to the MDS coordinator that it was important to take a team approach in ensuring that the electronic care plans were accurate. She also told her that if she sees problems related to patient care that she is capable of correcting, she should correct them instead of waiting to discuss them in meetings. I witnessed another incident where the unit supervisor mentioned that a new graduate nurse who was
