Another disadvantage of the cross curricular approach is that teachers are required to have a secured understanding of all subjects, which can be difficult as many teachers have felt they haven't had enough time, recourses and training. Similarly an article produced by SecEd entitled 'Confidence concern over cross-curricular literacy' have revealed that teachers have felt they were not given the skills and knowledge needed to cross link literacy into their subjects. In the article it was revealed that current curriculum requires teachers to have strong knowledge of all other subjects regardless of what their subject specialism is. However, a recent survey has revealed "52 per cent of teachers say a lack of knowledge is a key barrier to improving literacy in their school" and a "Furthermore, 24 per cent did not feel confident teaching the literacy requirements of the new national curriculum" (Sec-ed.co.uk, 2016). …show more content…
