Negative Advertising Advertising has a great influence on the consumers depending on whether it is negative or positive. Negative advertising is present on our televisions from political advertisements and product advertisements. Negative advertising is a type of advertising that focuses on negative features of a candidate or a rival product. Negative advertising portrays the competitors or opponents in a negative way as it makes the advertiser appear better. A good example is when Apple negatively advertised against Microsoft by cheerfully making fun of Microsoft’s personal computer giant as old-fashioned and problematic (Robertson, 2015). Apple was able to make a lot of sales and become top on the market. On the other hand, when negative advertising is not done in an ethical way, it can turn out disastrous. A business may intentionally lie about a competitor company's products and services to make their products look good. Most of these companies are forced to apologize publicly for making negative remarks about a certain company. In the political world, negative advertising can turn voters on the advertiser’s side. Negative advertising has adverse effects on all the consumers, especially the children. Children are susceptible to negative advertising as it has adverse effects on them. Negative advertisement creates negative effects on the minds of the children especially when parents cannot afford to buy them the products being advertised. Negative advertising manipulates our children because they accept these messages as unbiased and truthful. An example of negative advertisements on children is the promoting of junk foods on out TV sets. Companies who sell junk foods are always negatively advertising their products as they encourage children to take them. Additionally, they tend to convince them that junk food contains a nutritional value and it is good for their health. What they fail to expose to the children is that, junk foods are the main cause of obesity and obesity is a disease that seriously affecting children around the globe. It should be noted that, junk food negative advertisements greatly influence children, leading to an increased demand for junk food by children, but advertisers are not letting this out.
