Discovery Of Nasa Essay

615 Words3 Pages

For fifty-eight years, NASA has made ground-breaking discoveries about our solar system. Those missions take a lot of preparation and hard work. Many missions have been created to discover new things about outer space and the universe. Space probes and rovers help the world find information about the solar system. Mars Rover Spirit and Opportunity, MESSENGER, and Voyager II are some of the many space probes and rovers that were sent to planets to explore, they achieved goals, and created spinoffs.
On June 10, 2003, NASA launched Mars Rover Spirit into outer space looking for life and water on Mars. Twenty-seven days later, NASA launched Spirit’s sister, Opportunity, into outer space looking for life and water on the other side of Mars. After many months of traveling, the two robotic vehicles landed on Mars. Opportunity, ten years later, made an amazing discovery. Evidence of an old, wet, and mild environment was found. Over the years, these two rovers discovered warmer and wetter areas on Mars. Even though the rovers are getting older, they are still working today. Mars Rover Spirit and Opportunity have made unbelievable discoveries on the Red Planet. These missions have resulted in spinoffs. A spinoff …show more content…

MESSENGER’s goal was to explore Mercury, the smallest planet. The space probe reached Mercury’s orbit in March of 2011. While exploring Mercury, evidence of ice was found. MESSENGER has sent many pictures of the smallest planet in our solar system. Sadly, after about five years of orbiting Mercury, MESSENGER unexpectedly crashed on April 30,2015. Even though the probe crashed, MESSENGER still achieved its goal. This mission also resulted to a spinoff. Solar panels used for powering the probe using the Sun’s energy, are now used on people’s rooftops collecting the Sun’s energy to heat and power their homes. Another mission that went to outer space was Voyager
