Many are often confused on the difference between stereotyping, being prejudice, and discrimination. Being prejudice often includes an unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to a rational influence. Discriminating a specific group can include treatment of a person or particular individuals in a way that is worse than the way people are usually treated. As for stereotypes, they are simply cognitions or beliefs. If someone stereotypes another person or group of people, it does not necessarily mean they are prejudice or discriminatory. If someone does not like another person because of their membership in a specific group, then one is being prejudice. To discriminate another individual, one has to be treating a person differently because of one's involvement in a group. A Psychologist named Saul Mcleod informed, “There are four main explanations of prejudice and discrimination: authoritarian personality, realistic conflict theory, stereotyping and, social identity theory.” His explanation is great way to show how being prejudice and discrimination can …show more content…

For example, many people believed Adolf Hitler was an atheist and had no morals and thus being able to kill freely without a single care or feeling. As for a fact, Hitler was certainly not an atheist- he was actually born a Roman Catholic. It is quite clear that Hitler was an evil human being, however his religion was irrelevant to his malevolent personality. As for sororities, a common misconception would be that they have hazed all their incoming members.
