You mustn’t blame disease for the yellow of leaves because it probably is the pH of the soil. Each plant likes different pH’s and if they get the incorrect amount it could causes illness. If you know about the basics of pH it could help you keep your garden healthy and to help you when things go wrong.
What is pH? the pH is the measurement of how much alkaline or acidic something is. it’s a scale that runs from 0 to 14, 7 is neutral. from below 7 downs is acidic and from higher then 7 upwards is alkaline. The texture of the soil must be known as well, wither its clay, sand or in between. For clay soil it is harder to change and you need more material then sand. This is because of the surface of clay soil; its surface is harder and tougher to penetrate were as sand soil is much easier to change.
Limestone is used to raise the pH and sulfer is to lower it. Limes tone is usually pure calcium carbonate, but dolomitic limestone has calcium carbonate and magnesium so lows the pH and gives magnesium to the soil.
You should not use sulfer that is powdered because it is expensive and it is finer. both limestone and sulfer are not soluble in water so you must place it 6 inches in the soil, must be a quick action. If not possible leave it on top and let it sink in the
