While it is likely for one to think that board and the management are the same things, taking a keen look at the two makes the two distinctly different. The duties and responsibilities differ. A good start is through defining the two names. A board is a group of people having the collective authority to control a given institution that is administered by an executive and other staff member. Also, governance is the process of exercising power. On the contrary, leadership is a general term that means the action of leading a group of people.
Looking at the differences in a simple manner, the board of governance is responsible for making the decisions and management that carries them out. Due to nature of the society, the boards of governors are becoming stronger. This is because they have a keen interest in the day to day activities in the institution. The Healthcare system has customs that are difficult to change. Therefore, for any successful change and implementation of policies, strategic planning is required. The health care system defines strategic planning as an active and structured process that is implemented by institutions entailing the dynamic use of specific selected external opportunities to develop the organization’s internal competence and achieve its mission. Depending on the unit and complexity of the system, the board of directors will provide different services.
