The primary focus of B.A.S.E. is creating a positive environment, substance abuse, alcohol consumption prevention and anti-bullying among the town of Niskayuna youth. To prepare myself for this leadership role, N-CAP sponsored me to attend Youth to Youth (Y2Y) Eastern States Conference at Bryant University in summer of 2016 and 2017. Taking that into consideration that babies and little children are present, I might plan ahead to have a room with someone to watch or babysit the children while I speak to the moms. In today’s society, substance abuse is a serious issue that has many explanations as to why it occurs. Peer pressure, boredom, rebellion, etc., are all common examples of why a person uses drugs and alcohol but there is more depth to it. There are relatively stable patterns of social relations that contribute to the values and decisions of humans. Three levels of social structures that surround and permeate us are macrostructures, microstructures, and patriarchy.
After engaging in the meeting, I took away the idea of creating a parent and youth awareness meeting to get the word out about the underground sex trafficking of humans and how serious it is.
