Tourism Industry Effects on Orlando
Imagine millions of people visiting your town every year just because they are on holiday. Tourism plays a major part of most countries economy. To some countries the tourism is the only income for their economy. It can be utilized to show and expose the country culture to the visitors from all over the world. Orland which is located in U.S state Florida, is one of the biggest destinations in the world that more than 60 million people visits every year. People travel to Orlando to enjoy the fantastic themes parks over there. This massive number of visitors every year has good and bad effects on the people of Orlando.
Orlando was named after a soldier named Orlando Reeves (Orlando: History PG #1). It was settled by Creek and other Native American tribes before to the arrival of Europeans. Later on, Orlando became the seat for Orange County. Orlando was not only a rural community. In fact, most of its residents worked in agriculture. The population of Orlando increased after Disney's announcement in 1965. The announcement said that they were going to construct another Disneyland park at south of Orlando. The tourism industry became number one industry that provided jobs at Orlando, a lot of people now working in tourism because it provide more than 233,500 jobs (Stratton, 1). Hotels, motels & restaurants are always busy. “A record 32 million room nights were sold in Orlando in 2014, resulting in bed tax collections topping $200 million for the first time in Orange County” (Conrad, 1). Also, the land acre price was dramatically increased around 1500%. Most of the land owners benefits from this increase and they sold their land to buy a bigger one in the south with half of the selling price.
