Model 1 Analysis: Case Study Preparation
Prior to starting this program, I thought it would be wonderful to be able to teach a consumer education course online. Since starting this program, I have been granted permission by my school board to create an online summer school session of consumer education to ‘test run’ it for possible traditional school year use.
Introduction to District 95’s First Online Course
The following will be about the very first online course for District 95, and the creation of that course through the use of instructional design.

In my short time in this school, I noticed that students were taking online consumer education, through outside sources. This was leading to the business department losing students, which lowered our Full Time Equivalent (FTE). This course idea was developed because the business department was worried about the number of students that were taking the Consumer Education course from other districts, to fulfill Illinois’ high school requirement of a consumer education course. This was leading to a decrease in students taking classes through the business department, which resulted in losing FTE. Those objectives fall within seven sub-units of this unit. Please refer to Figure 1. for the sub-unit breakdown along with the objectives that will be completed through that sub-unit. Through the use of ed-puzzle and Canvas quizzes, the learners will be able to have formative check-ins through mini-lectures inside of the LMS.
Within the Taxes Unit, the students will have many formative assessments. These formative assessments will come in the form of quizzes, assignments, and discussion board posts. The summative for this unit will be a two-part assessment; part one is scenario based and part two is a reflective essay. For the scenario part, the learner will be given one of three scenarios, and will need to read through the scenario, fill out the W4 form, and file a 1040 EZ form for the individual in the scenario. The second part of the assessment will be a reflective essay on income distribution and redistribution through taxation. Through the reflective essay the learner will analyze two of the government provided programs; welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, and their pros and cons to the tax
