In this sci-fi fiction book, Divergent, by Veronica Roth, a young teen named Beatrice Prior (Tris). She is living in a future dystopian Chicago, where she is forced to make a decision that will decide her fate. She has an option of one out of five factions, but she can either stay with her family or go on her own. Personally, I really liked this book because of the way that it was written and how much of an imagination the author really has. The plot of the story is also very unique which I really like as well. The author of this book, Veronica Roth, is a young American novelist. She is currently 29 years old and is married to Nelson Fitch. Roth was born in New York on August 19, 1988, but grew up in Barrington, Illinois. Roth was a very …show more content…

This is a day where every 16 years old will choose a faction that they must devote their life to. They may need to leave friends, and family behind to start their new journey. On this day, they can choose from 1 out of 5 factions. The factions are Dauntless, Abnegation, Candor, Amity and Erudite. I think that this book is just for entertainment purposes. Everything in this book is fictional, but the author makes it seem very real. The main theme in this book could be to “make your own decisions in life.” I think that this is a good theme because Tris is forced to make a decision to stay with her family, or go on her own and be herself. “Beatrice, he says, looking sternly into my eyes. We should think of our family. There is an edge in his voice. But. But we must also think about ourselves.” In this quote, Beatrice finally realizes that she must think about herself too instead of her family. This connects with the theme because she must make her own decisions in her life, that is best for her. She shouldn’t be held back on making a decision just because someone thinks it’s different or wrong. Tris wants to get out of the faction Abnegation, which she and her family are from. Firstly, I didn’t like how the book ended because it ended up with Tris’ parents both dying. I thought it was a rather sad ending, but everything else about the book was very good. The pacing tone used in this book was phenomenal because when things got intense, the book started to get a face pace., but when it was a more calm and quiet time it was a slow pace. I thought that the book had just the right amount of characters because they all had something to do in Tris’ situation, and they weren’t just some non-factor. The plot of this book was very exciting and the way it was written was too perfect. If the author was trying to create an intense, cliffhanging book, then she did it perfectly. Lastly, I thought the message in this book was kind of unique because people may think that is bad to be selfish, but in reality, everybody needs a little selfishness in them to survive. If Tris wasn’t a little bit of selfish, who knows what would’ve happened. She would’ve had to spend the rest of her life in misery and
