My legal name is Mishal Shumail and this is my second year in university. I am majoring in Criminology & Justice. The languages I speak are Urdu and English and my ethnicity is Islam. I am taking this course because it was part of my program and also I feel that it is interesting to sit in a room where people have different opinions on diversity and what other students including the professor think the issues that come with diversity. I am usually working whenever I can; I don’t have a lot of spare time but when I do I like to watch movies, go for long walks or go shopping. Social justice to me means that everyone in this world should have an equivalent distribution of privileges and opportunities. Multiculturalism means involving different cultural elements and ethnic groups within a nation; that to me, is a multicultural society. I liked how she used her words to describe feminism. I think that was a successful effort to finally put down a definition of feminism, which is “a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of sexes.” Chimamanda then highlights how society teaches girls differently from boys, for example: “We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls: ‘You can have ambition but not too much. You should aim to be successful but not too successful. Otherwise you will threaten the man.” Sadly that still goes on in today’s world. In some parts of the world girls are still not allowed to attend schools but boys have the right to an education. Education shouldn’t just be achieved by one gender, it should be everyone’s right and we all should profit from it. She made this song worth listening. She is a perfect role model and I love her confidence. Chimamanda has made a career for herself telling the stories that mean so much to her because she went through every single one of those stories in different phases of her life, and most importantly they happen to be the stories that we all must listen
