What: This class on culture and diversity has really opened my views and thoughts on other cultures. When looking at a person from a different background, it’s important to understand why they are who they are. This class has taught me that how someone was raised and where they are from makes them unique. Before I started this class I did not think with a very diverse mindset. After this class it has made me open up my beliefs and not be so self-centered around just one culture. This class made me realize how easy it can be to be bias when you have always been around one type of race your entire life. When you are working in the community it’s important to be familiar with different cultures, and their backgrounds so you can understand where they are coming from. I did 10 hours of community service with the Conicville Volunteer Fire Department. I really enjoyed this community service and I could defiantly see myself doing something like this in the future career. During my community service I got to do a ride-along in the back of the ambulance. This was very interesting to me and I really enjoyed the experience. This community services goes along with the class because the patients you will encounter will all be different and diverse in their cultures and backgrounds. This is why I have learned it is important to be very diverse and understanding of different cultures. This class made me learn that there are so many different people out there. I have grown up in a small community and for the most part have always been around the same type of race and background. After this class I am going to be more culturally aware by getting to know people from other cultures better. Getting to know someone that is different from you can make you better understand who they are and why they do the things that’s they do.
