How did we get here and do we have any control our own destiny? These are two very difficult questions in which every person must wrestle with. It is no wonder creation and providence often is hotly debated especially in today’s western culture. Millard Erickson defined creation as “God’s originating work” and providence “God’s continuing work” . Western thought has placed science and religion at odds. Once a Christian endeavor, Science has relied upon itself to explain where we came from and if we are ultimately in control of our own destiny.

This is the beginning of history and time. Not only are the heavens and the Earth created, but also humanity is set forth into history. Genesis 1:1 – 3 states that all three of the Trinity is there during the time of creation. These beginning passages include the Father, Son and the Spirit. The Son was with the Father who created and the Spirit hovered over the waters. For the next six days God created everything. Specifically, Genesis 1:26, indicates an affirmation between the three persons of the Trinity to make man and woman so they would rule be fruitful and multiply in the Earth. God blesses man in Genesis 2:4 – 9 by giving man life and shows care by putting them in a garden that was pleasing and good for sustenance. God saw that everything he made was good and he completed his work. It is clear in Genesis 1 it took six days for God to create everything. The seventh day he rested. Exodus 20:8 explains the seventh day was to be a holy day of reverence and honor to God. The Bible should be taken literally in regards to creation and providence. There is no room for explanations outside of which the Bible holds. God is not created. He is transcendent of his creation and time. God spoke everything into existence out of nothing. He created six days and rested on the seventh. Each person of the Trinity was involved. God put everything into motion and is sovereign and involved. God didn’t create and let evolution take over. God is involved in his creation and he has a purpose for it in which everything is for Him. The pinnacle of creation is man. God is deeply involved with His creation. He is in control of nature and with humanity. His creation has fallen into sin, however He is using all things for the good. God wills a time when a new heaven and new Earth will be His and our dwelling
