Does The Energy Drink (Redbull) Have The Highest Acidity?

Hypothesis
I predicted that the PH level of the energy drink (redbull) had the highest acidity. My prediction regarding water is that it would be neutral.

Methodology
First, the class was asked to collect different samples of liquids in a plastic container, and bring them to our next class so we could measure their PH levels. All groups brought in their samples and we began our experiment. Our professor gave us the tools needed to carry out this experiment. They consisted of glass beakers, a spray bottle of distilled water, tissue paper, and most importantly the pH meter. The first step was to rinse off the beaker with the distilled water in order to purify it, then we wiped it dry. We put enough liquid of our first sample into the clean beaker, and put the probe of the PH meter, and waited till it stabilizes, then we recorded the PH into the table. Then, we cleaned the meter and beaker and …show more content…

After looking into it, I found out that it was high due to the ingredients, which are acidic themselves. Taurine itself is called 2-aminoethanesulfonic acids. Another acidic ingredient in Red bull is the sodium citrate, this helps preserve soft drinks, as well as turn glucose into an acid known as lactic acid. You can also find Amino acids in Red bull. In general these ingredients causes liquids to be extremely acidic. (Justo)
The other sample that we tested was water. The water’s PH level showed that it was neutral. Looking into the reason behind it, I found that it had to do with the chemical bonds between the oxygen and hydrogen elements. The compound of water is H2O, this compound consists of a positively charged Hydrogen ion (acidic) with a negatively charged hydroxide ion (alkaline), these bonds have equally the same amount of each, which overall results in them neutralizing the other out because its properties are both acid and base.
