Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is the topic of our conversation here, being one of the craft beer’s in the industry, it’s important to remember that it is just a small portion of what income the beer industry brings in. What is considered to be the “Big Three”, is what contributes the most. Dogfish was founded by Sam Calagione, who has said that the most important aspect of his beer would be the quality- something that the “Big Three” are lacking in. Founded in the summer of 1995, 22 years later that are still going strong with expansions in different hospitality areas.
Dogfish has many strengths, those of which include the dedication to high-quality craft beer. When they put their name on a product, they want it to be of upmost quality for the consumers. While they are relatively small, they have found a way to counteract that negative and use it to their advantage. Firstly, people have a problem paying such high prices for something that may be higher quality. Especially if the consumers are used to getting Beer from the “Big Three” for such low prices. With it being a craft beer, there is a much lower demand for it, they are unable to really match the demand if it were to come down to it. The size of corporations such as Budweiser or Bud Lite, are able to handle the huge demand. You can see this in the shelf space that is available to brewing companies. The “Big Three” has an insurmountable amount of shelf space that keeps the consumers eyes and attention, compared to something that Dogfish may have where it is the bottom left corner of a shelf not at eye level. It’s very hard for lower shelf brands to create that type of buzz that is needed for consumers to purchase a product, this is something that Dogfish has had to
