If you’re anything like I used to be, you may not know what domestic violence means or entails. This is a real problem, considering that DV is an issue on many college campuses. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the US have been targets of physical violence from their partner, and an even higher percentage have experienced emotional abuse. (DV isn’t always just physical.) October is Domestic Violence Month, and it’s the perfect time for you to educate yourself on the matter and to help raise awareness.
So, here’s what you need to know:
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month.
Most people recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month because it is so widely promoted. What they don’t realize is that October is also the time to advocate for domestic violence. There’s no reason to choose one over the other; October is big enough for the both of us. They’re both important causes and they both deserve avocation and awareness. We all can play our role in making sure that this cause is advocated, promoted, and fundraised for.
