Why do we lie? Is it so we don 't get in trouble? Or is it because it 's easier to tell than truth? This is a big problem we have in our society today, and has been since the beginning of time. Charles, by Shirly Jackson, and Thank You Ma 'am, by Langston Hughes, both show the theme, don 't lie, because the truth will eventually come back to haunt you One character that shows this theme is Laurie, from the story Charles.
