There are many details within these covers and advertisements that attract people’s attention without them knowing it. These details can include stereotypes, symbolism, color, shading, and more. By teasing the mind, these details will convince the consumer to purchase the product or magazine. For example, The New Yorker, is a political magazine that mainly targets democrats, and they achieve by using political stereotypes, symbolism, and political beliefs to drag them in to purchasing their magazine. Around this time, President Donald Trump was running for President in the 2017 Presidential election. Trump was running on the Republican side against former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. During this time, Trump was getting a negative response from not only democrats, but more than half of the nation, according to the popular vote. A lot of Americans agreed that Donald Trump would be a horrible President, this opened an opportunity to the editors of The New Yorker. On the front cover of the issue, it is seen that former United States Presidents, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington, and Harry S. Truman, are watching one of Trump’s rallies on a television. Trump is standing behind a podium with his well-known election logo on it, and has his known facial expression for giving out a speech. The Presidents seem to be sitting in a room of the White House; as they watch the television, they show facial expressions of disgust and disappointment.
