The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd is a novel about Lily, who runs away from home to Tiburon, after she and Rosaleen, her “stand-in mom” were arrested. Lily killed her mother at a young age, and she feels guilty about it. When Lily and Rosaleen are at Tiburon, Lily finds a picture of The Black Madonna at a store, which was the same picture that Lily’s mom had. This leads them to a pink house, where they meet August, June, and May. August is the oldest and is seen as the leader of the house. Before each chapter of the novel, there is a quote.

Taylor, the main character, Cassie Logan, a 9-year-old African-American girl who lived in southern Mississippi in the early 1930s when racism was the norm, narrates her perspective on the world around her. The setting of the story, the Logan Land, is important to the Logan family because it is their source of income, the legacy of the land holds an important place in their family history, and they are lucky enough even to own land. The Giver is a novel by Lois Lowry, about a dystopian society. At the beginning of the book, Jonas was obedient and loyal to his community; but when he gets assigned the job of the receiver he gains knowledge about his community which including colors, animals, and most of all, feelings. When Jonas learns these things, his opinion about his community changes, and he starts to feel resentment, anger, and hatred. At the beginning of the book, Jonas felt loyal and obedient toward his community.
George’s quick rise to fame, and his eventual decline is a big factor in this story, but one of its other factors is his dispute with infamous composer Ludvig von Beethoven. In the tavern after the men have had a few drinks and things start to get heated, he gets angry with George and says that he ‘would rather dedicate his music to a barn mule’ (Dove 139), before ripping the sheet music up. It should be known, that Beethoven wrote this piece especially for George, since he seemed like the only one who could play it as amazing as he did. This was what made George famous, and it’s gone in a matter of seconds. This scene of the book, which reads easier than almost any other passage since it’s in script format and thus has which character is speaking and some vague actions, is the climax of the story.

In The Outsiders, Darry Curtis plays a large role in influencing the gang and shaping their actions and attitudes.
